ER Jazz Trio is first and foremost the story of a pianist, Eric Richard, who trained at the schools of jazz Barry Harris, classical accompaniment and French song. Borrowing the humility characterizing the great accompanists, he was able to meet with happiness many (his) renowned artists and very varied styles such Graeme Allwright, Lexie Kendrick & Sean Gourley, Patricia Barber, Michelle Hendricks, Sanseverino, the Swing Society, Ricky Ford and many singers from the Brittany region where he lives, near Rennes.
With these rich experiences and a slow maturing (like any good thing!), he finally decides to embark on a more personal adventure, a project that is both simple and ambitious: to pay tribute to a certain post-jazz classicismbop through a repertoire consisting solely of original compositions.
For this he surrounds himself with the bassist Marion Pacaud with whom he animates many jazz sessions in the region of Redon, and the drummer Patrick Jouannic, his accomplice for many years and with whom he shared many musical experiences (The Swing Society, Tribute to H.Mancini, Lexie Kendrick, Sean Gourley…).
On stage, the trio’s sound is energetic but applied, melodies echoing historical standards enhanced by the dynamism and playfulness of the structural games… Like the search for aesthetic fidelity, nostalgia in reinvention, a kind of vintage modernity…
Eric Richard
After a classical training in his youth and with a background of graduate studies in the scientific field, Eric Richard began to take an interest in self-taught jazz. Subsequently, he trained at the schools of jazzman Barry Harris, classical accompaniment and French song.
He has enjoyed working with many renowned artists and styles such as Graeme Allwright, Sanseverino, Sean Gourley, Patricia Barber, Michelle Hendricks, the Swing Society, Ricky Ford, Gaël Horellou… etc, while satisfying his curiosity as an accompanist in the fields of cinema-concert, classical and contemporary dance or theater.
A complete and experienced musician, he has also addressed transmission, having taught classical music, jazz and the art of accompaniment in very varied educational contexts.
Marion Pacaud
While studying classical guitar Marion begins to learn the bass guitar as a self-taught.
It was Frédéric Chiffoleau who, in 2004, introduced her to the double bass, an instrument that has fascinated her for a long time. It is also he who will make him discover jazz. She participated in the jazz workshops of Jean-Marie Bellec at the Nantes Conservatory for two years, while training as a school teacher.
In 2016, she met Jérémie Mignotte and attended the jams he organized in the country of Redon.. It is in this context that she learns a lot of repertoire and also spends time identifying the greatest (Ray Brown, Paul Chambers…).
In 2019 she plays for the first time alongside Eric Richard with whom she has worked often since, and thanks to whom her bop culture continues to grow.
